We have Bill Scholl, the social justice consultant for our archdiocese, on the show to talk to us about “affluenza” and how it affects our society. We feel that it is a very important topic as we move into the holiday season.

To start off the show, we have Bill give us a re-cap of his booth at the National Catholic Youth Conference. For the thematic park, he put together a monopoly board to help high school students realize the faults in the immigration system.
In our news segment, we talk about the SQPN giving campaign and our own new t-shirts. Through your order for a t-shirt and through donating to SQPN, you help support our ministry and the ministry of SQPN so that we can continue to create these awesome podcasts.

Our main feature of the show is Bill’s talk about affluenza. In our interview, Bill talks about how our mindset can be changed by those we surround ourselves with and how we tend to want things that other people have. To combat this, Bill gives some helpful suggestions on a few small changes that we can make in our lives this holiday season and also suggested reading How Much is Enough by Arthur Simon. Our Catholic Challenge this week is to implement one of those changes as a new holiday tradition.

Looking ahead at next week, we will have Jeff Young, from catholicfoodie.com on the show to talk about Christmas traditions and food. It’s definitely a show you’ll want to look forward to as we will be sharing some of our own family traditions. Want to share yours, give us a call at 206-337-7945.

In this episode, Pat interviews a representative of the CFCA at the National Catholic Youth conference in Kansas City. This past week, along with Paul Camarata of the Saintcast, we represented SQPN at NCYC 2009.

To start off the show, we run through our three J’s and have two Thanksgiving-themed lines to fit into the show. We’ve got a few creative ideas on how to fit in the phrases. In our news section, we talk a little bit about NCYC and have some great feedback from Fr. James Tucker of the Catholic Creativity podcast and from Greg and Jennifer Willits, of Rosary Army.

Finally, to round out the episode, we have a special Catholic challenge for you this week and then a piece of feedback on Thanksgiving traditions from one of our listeners.

We hope that you all have a blessed Thanksgiving. Interested in sending us some feedback about what your family is up to? Leave us a voicemail at 206-337-7945.

In the “Stuff we like” segment, we list a few of our favorite podcasts, Busted Halo, This American Life, On the U and the Daily Breakfast. These are podcasts that we find really fascinating and think that you will, too.

Nick decides to quiz Pat on his knowledge of movies in a segment called “Horror Film or Chick Flick?” Did you ever realize that the names of horror films and chick flicks sound very similar? Nick gives some examples along with the movie synopsis and asks Pat to figure out into which genre the movie belongs.

Finally, we start a discussion about religion in the workplace. As youth, we were very involved in a youth group and because of that, our willingness to talk about our faith has carried over into our lives today. However, we have found that at our jobs, some people are not as open and candid with their faith as we expected. Have you found yourself in a similar situation? We would like to hear about it.
