Our Catholic Challenge for this week is a book review by Dave from Wisconsin. He reviews the Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Nick also adds his thoughts about the Snakebite Letters.

Episode #14 – We’re All Grown Up, and We Pray the Rosary

Episode #13 – Spirit & Truth and Technical Difficulties

BTS #13 is jam packed! We discuss superstitions, we share a what’s my line and we debut a new segment called Catholics of Caliber where we interview Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis.

We start out with our three Js! In our news segment we talk about the new Beloit Mindset List. The list “provides a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of freshmen students entering college. It is used around the world as the school year begins, as a reminder of the rapidly changing frame of reference for this new generation.” Check out the Beloit Mindset list here. Nick tells us about Nature’s Call, a young adult Labor Day camping trip. This week Nick and his roommate made a Nature’s Call promo video and posted it on YouTube.

During the episode, we had some crazy technical difficulties! So in our Help I’m Fallen segment we briefly discuss common superstitions and what we believe about them as Catholics. To hear more, check out episode #666 of the Daily Breakfast, which talks about that topic.

Our new segment is called Catholics of Caliber. This month Nick interviews Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis. Spirit and Truth is a Catholic ministry whose mission is “to bring young adults into relationship with Christ through worship of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, study of church teachings and sacred scripture and celebrations of Catholic traditions, while forming a community of life-giving relationships.” Young Adults meet for Eucharistic Adoration and fellowship afterwords at a local restaurant. We also have a guest in the studio, our friend Kari who has graciously taken the time to come play some music for us and talk about her own inspiration for composing.

In the news segment, we talk about whether Microsoft can still sell copies of Word, due to a judgment being handed to it in Texas. We also found a blog that asks what the Bible would be like if it was sent out over Twitter.

Nick and Pat start a new segment called Catholics of Caliber where they highlight a Catholic person of interest. In this episode, we interview Jeff Geerling about LOLSaints.com. We hear about how the site got started and talk with Jeff about some of his other Projects, including Open Source Catholic and his blog, Life is a Prayer. (more…)
