In this episode of In Between Sundays, Pat and Nick discuss some of the reasons behind the next 40 days.

To start off the show, we go through the three J’s for Ash Wednesday and talk about a new what’s my line on the show. We’ve got a good one this week for the season of Lent. How would you work in the phrase, “Fist pumping like champs?” We’ve got a few ideas.

In our help I’m fallen segment, we talk about a few of the things we are doing for Lent and play some feedback from our listeners. If you are looking for ideas on what you can do to prepare for Easter, we’ve got some good ones on the show.
To finish out the show, we go through the feedback we received about the Liturgy of the Hours. It’s amazing the different ways people spend their time in prayer. There are too many to count! If you missed that show, check out episode 37.

Happy New Year! It’s that time of year again where everyone does a summary show of the past year. We’ve decided not to do that—we’re doing a wrap-up show. We talk about our favorite episodes from this past year and take the opportunity to thank all our listeners.

To start off the show, we’ve got a great piece of feedback from our friend Dave in Wisconsin and Pat talks about his love of his Flip video. According to Nick, Pat wouldn’t put the camera down even while they were recording.

We have definitely had a lot of interesting guests on our show. Among our favorite episodes is our interview with Mike Hayes, episode 23, Popple, episode 20 and the SQPN simulcast, episode 10. Take a listen to this episode as we highlight some of our favorite episodes and provide some commentary on them.
Looking ahead at next year, we’ve got some really fun shows lined up and we are excited to share them with you. We thank you for time in listening to our show. We are excited to see what this next year brings for everyone.

<itunes:summary>Happy New Year! It's that time of year again where everyone does a summary show of the past year. We've decided not to do that—we're doing a wrap-up show. We talk about our favorite episodes from this past year and take the opportunity to thank all our listeners.

To start off the show, we've got a great piece of feedback from our friend Dave in Wisconsin and Pat talks about his love of his Flip video. According to Nick, Pat wouldn't put the camera down even while they were recording.

Looking ahead at next year, we've got some really fun shows lined up and we are excited to share them with you. We thank you for time in listening to our show. We are excited to see what this next year brings for everyone.

We have Jeff Young, the Catholic Foodie on the show to talk about Christmas cooking and yummy food.
After the 3 J’s we talk about the What’s My Line segment. Nick and Pat forgot to fit in Barb in Nebraska’s land Greg from Kentucky’s lines from last week… Jeff helps us out with fitting them in while Nick goes a little crazy with the bell and the buzzer.

In the news we discuss the SQPN Giving Campaign! In our ‘Help I’m Fallen’ segment we finally get to the meat of things. That’s right, we discuss great holiday foods. We have Bill Scholl, the social justice consultant for our archdiocese, on the show to talk to us about “affluenza” and how it affects our society. We feel that it is a very important topic as we move into the holiday season.

To start off the show, we have Bill give us a re-cap of his booth at the National Catholic Youth Conference. For the thematic park, he put together a monopoly board to help high school students realize the faults in the immigration system.
In our news segment, we talk about the SQPN giving campaign and our own new t-shirts. Through your order for a t-shirt and through donating to SQPN, you help support our ministry and the ministry of SQPN so that we can continue to create these awesome podcasts.

Our main feature of the show is Bill’s talk about affluenza. In our interview, Bill talks about how our mindset can be changed by those we surround ourselves with and how we tend to want things that other people have. To combat this, Bill gives some helpful suggestions on a few small changes that we can make in our lives this holiday season and also suggested reading How Much is Enough by Arthur Simon. Our Catholic Challenge this week is to implement one of those changes as a new holiday tradition.

Looking ahead at next week, we will have Jeff Young, from catholicfoodie.com on the show to talk about Christmas traditions and food. It’s definitely a show you’ll want to look forward to as we will be sharing some of our own family traditions. Want to share yours, give us a call at 206-337-7945.

Rick is known for helping the hospital to look at its own practices and make them more environmentally conscious. In our interview, Rick gives us some practical tips on how we can be more green in our own habits and practices.

To start off the show, we talk about a new TV show that you may have heard about. It’s called Flashforward and is the new primetime hit on ABC. We’re hoping to talk a little bit more about the show on an upcoming podcast. Additionally, Pat has found a great video that was done all in one take by 172 college students. It’s quite impressive to watch. Click here to see the video. Finally, our t-shirt contest is in full swing. We are looking to hear your idea on what our shirts should say. Click here to see the rules for our contest.

We have a lot of feedback this week, including an email from someone in the Guatemalan jungle and a great phone call using one of our lines in the show. Finally, we are starting a month long series of Catholic challenges using the book review calls that we have received. We challenge our listeners to take a look at these books and choose one to read.

Pat and Nick are back this week with part two of their interview with Fr. Tom Tank about the sacrament of reconciliation.

Do you know where the pretzel comes from? We start off the episode with a quick history lesson about how pretzels and prayer are related. Additionally, we cover some news about the Pope’s travels and a new monopoly game that is being played online.

We have a new what’s my line suggestion and we work in the suggestion from Jeff Young that we missed on last week’s show.

The big feature of this show is the second part of our interview with Fr. Tom. In this interview, he talks about the healing power of reconciliation and how making use of the sacrament helps us maintain our mental health. Additionally he talks about how important it is that we forgive ourselves and how reconciliation should give us hope to live better lives.

We finish the show with some feedback, including our first caller from China and another “Maybe it’s Just Me” segment.

Looking ahead at next week’s show, we have a feature story about a program being started locally called “Pick God,” a program to help youth become comfortable with playing music at mass.

BTS #13 is jam packed! We discuss superstitions, we share a what’s my line and we debut a new segment called Catholics of Caliber where we interview Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis.

We start out with our three Js! In our news segment we talk about the new Beloit Mindset List. The list “provides a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of freshmen students entering college. It is used around the world as the school year begins, as a reminder of the rapidly changing frame of reference for this new generation.” Check out the Beloit Mindset list here. Nick tells us about Nature’s Call, a young adult Labor Day camping trip. This week Nick and his roommate made a Nature’s Call promo video and posted it on YouTube.

During the episode, we had some crazy technical difficulties! So in our Help I’m Fallen segment we briefly discuss common superstitions and what we believe about them as Catholics. To hear more, check out episode #666 of the Daily Breakfast, which talks about that topic.

Our new segment is called Catholics of Caliber. This month Nick interviews Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis. Spirit and Truth is a Catholic ministry whose mission is “to bring young adults into relationship with Christ through worship of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, study of church teachings and sacred scripture and celebrations of Catholic traditions, while forming a community of life-giving relationships.” Young Adults meet for Eucharistic Adoration and fellowship afterwords at a local restaurant.

Lastly, we finish up by talking about our fourth Catholic Challenge for the month—learning the Luminous mysteries of the Rosary. Looking ahead at next week’s show, we will check in and see how we’re all doing with our Catholic Challenges (memorizing the mysteries of the Rosary).

Have you ever wanted to call into the show but aren’t sure what exactly to call us about? We’ve started a new page on the website where you can go and see the topics where we want to hear from you.

In episode 9, we answered a question about finding communities of faith when moving to a new town. This is a big topic, especially for young adults who are moving out of the college lifestyle and into a parish community. Usually another parish or a group in a diocese will host a young adult group, but finding them can be hard.

What were your experiences after leaving college and working to find a community where you belonged? Perhaps you’re still searching for one. We want to hear from you and continue our discussion.

Our friend, artyi sent us some video feedback about our “three js” segment, where we talk about what’s been going on in our lives, but we look at it from the standpoint of junk, joy and Jesus moment. Each episode, we identify three things over the past week that we have experienced which fit into one of those categories. In response to this, artyi sent us some video feedback about a prayer drawing that she made while thinking about her own three js. Thanks so much, artyi for the video!

In this episode, we talk about upcoming events for young adults, including two Labor Day weekend events: Catholic Thrive in New York and Nature’s Call in Kansas City. They also briefly discuss Pope Benedict XVI’s new encyclical, “Caritas in Veritate.”

In the “Stuff we like” segment, we list a few of our favorite podcasts, Busted Halo, This American Life, On the U and the Daily Breakfast. These are podcasts that we find really fascinating and think that you will, too.

Nick decides to quiz Pat on his knowledge of movies in a segment called “Horror Film or Chick Flick?” Did you ever realize that the names of horror films and chick flicks sound very similar? Nick gives some examples along with the movie synopsis and asks Pat to figure out into which genre the movie belongs.

Finally, we start a discussion about religion in the workplace. As youth, we were very involved in a youth group and because of that, our willingness to talk about our faith has carried over into our lives today. However, we have found that at our jobs, some people are not as open and candid with their faith as we expected. Have you found yourself in a similar situation? We would like to hear about it. Call our feedback line at 206-337-7845 and let us know about your own experience.

Fathers Day is Sunday, June 21 so we have compiled this special episode in honor of dads everywhere. In this episode, we talk about the “three J’s” meaning Junk, Joy and Jesus and how we can use that model to evaluate what has been going on in our lives.

Pat talks about how he feels like he’s been way too busy and needs to find an organizational system in order to keep everything straight. We talk about some of the books that we have read that help people to learn about organization and planning, including Getting Things Done and Bit Literacy.

We finally have a feedback line and for this show asked people to call in and give us their favorite memories of their own dad. We received a few submissions and play them throughout the show.

Finally, we issue a special Catholic Challenge for Father’s day, asking people to spend time with their dad and to pray for him. We conclude the show with an interview with Nick and Pat’s brother Brian and their father about their own family traditions and special things they did with their dad growing up.

We finally have a feedback line and for this show asked people to call in and give us their favorite memories of their own dad. We received a few submissions and play them throughout the show.

Finally, we issue a special Catholic Challenge for Father's day, asking people to spend time with their dad and to pray for him. We conclude the show with an interview with Nick and Pat's brother Brian and their father about their own family traditions and special things they did with their dad growing up.
