Along with talking about vocations, there was a lot of news this week, from art to the Vatican, we found out about a new flash tour of the Sistine Chapel and the Pope blessing an image of Mary to help Chile.
For feedback this week, we have a call from Tim, who shares his Lenten story and struggles. Much like Pat, he’s trying to eat at home during Lent, but had a moment this past week when he ended up eating out.

Have you heard about the new evangelization? Recently, Pat gave a talk in Tulsa, Oklahoma about the new evangelization and its impact on new media. In this episode, he talks about some of the research he found. Did you know that there are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world? Listen to this episode to hear more about that statistic and others.

As our Catholic Challenge this week, we encourage you to listen to a fantastic homily given by Fr. Cantalamessa, the preacher to the papal household. He gave a fantastic talk and reflection on the year for priests.
We finish out the show with some interesting news about a torch that Pope Benedict blessed for the anniversary of St. Benedict. Finally, we play some great feedback for our show and a new song that was written for the Catholic Vitamins podcast.

<itunes:summary>Have you heard about the new evangelization?

When he was younger, Paul made a bad decision which affected the rest of his life. Want to hear more? Listen in to our episode to hear the interview.

To start off the show, we have two new lines from Steph in Wisconsin and Jessica, who left a comment on a previous episode.

In our news segment, we talk about a card trick that Paul Camarata sent us. It’s a pretty cool trick. Along with the magic trick, we talk about an article that Lisa Hendey sent us about the Pope embracing new media as a means to evangelization. The Vatican now his its own YouTube channel and recognizes the need to use technology to help people share their faith.
During our interview, Paul Davis tells us about his amazing story from high school to get him to where he is now. His story is filled with a message of hope and reliance on God. If you are looking for something to help you put your own life into perspective, take a listen.

This week, we received a lot of feedback from our listeners. To close out the show, we read some of the feedback we have received and play some audio feedback from Barb in Nebraska. She called in to tell us that she really enjoyed our Mom’s pumpkin bread recipe. Interested in getting a copy of it? <itunes:summary>Kelly Croy is our guest this evening as we talk about art and how it impacts our faith. Kelly does performance art, using it to inspire others. Listen in to find out about his art form and how he got started working with chalk.

In the news segment, we talk about the earthquake in Haiti and what you can do to help out. Along with that, we have some news about a woman who went on a rampage in McDonalds. Finally, Pat found a funny site where it catalogs really bad metaphors that students have used in their English papers over the years.

In our Catholic of Caliber, we interview Kelly Croy. He does chalk art to help others better understand what goes into art and how it can affect their own spiritual lives. Finally, he talks about the unique properties of chalk and what he likes about the art.

Finally, to close out the show, we quiz Kelly about his knowledge of Chick Flicks and Horror Films. Will he get the shows correct? Listen in to see what happens.

What do you use to pray? As part of our feature for this episode, we talk about the devotional items we use to help us find the words to pray when we need inspiration. If you are looking to add something to your spiritual life as part of a new year’s resolution, listen to this episode for some good ideas.

During the news, Nick talks about a new application called Sleep Cycle, which monitors your sleeping patterns and then wakes you up so that you won’t feel tired during the day. Along with Nick’s review of the app, he talks about an article he found where an Italian man decided to spend New Year’s eve in jail rather than with his family. Finally, Pat plays the trailer for the new A-Team movie that is premiering this weekend.

What resources do you use to pray when you can’t come up with the right words? Nick and Pat talk about a few resources they use, from simple prayers to the Liturgy of the Hours, you’ll be able to find a devotional that you can use to help boost your own spiritual life. As part of our Catholic Challenge, we invite our listeners to find a devotional and start using it. What better time than the beginning of the year to begin a new spiritual practice?

In our ‘Help I’m Fallen’ segment we finally get to the meat of things. That’s right, we discuss great holiday foods. We talk about everything delicious to Scrapple (or as Pat says meat flan). Nick talks about his favorite foods including the Ocean Spray Can Cranberry Sauce. Pat mentions his love of Holiday Ham. Jeff pulls from a large pool of amazing recipies which can be found here.

Finally, to round out the episode, we have a special Catholic challenge for you this week and then a piece of feedback on Thanksgiving traditions from one of our listeners.

We hope that you all have a blessed Thanksgiving. Interested in sending us some feedback about what your family is up to? Leave us a voicemail at 206-337-7945.

In our news section, we talk a little bit about NCYC and have some great feedback from Fr. James Tucker of the Catholic Creativity podcast (http://www.catholiccreativity.net/) and from Greg and Jennifer Willits, of Rosary Army (http://www.rosaryarmy.com/).

If you haven’t joined our Facebook group yet, head to InBetweenSundays.com (http://www.inbetweensundays.com/) and go to the right hand side of our page to become a fan of our podcast. If you would like to send us feedback, e-mail it to feedback@inbetweensundays.com or call us at (206) 337-7945. Lastly, if you like this podcast you can find more great Catholic content at SQPN.com (http://www.sqpn.com/)

“In Between Sundays” is podcast dedicated to today’s Christian young adults. The goal is to help you live in the world outside of church. We talk about life as a young adult and ways to grow in faith.

So have we! Jeff Young is our featured guest on the show and he’s here to talk about spiritual hunger. Have you ever felt that tug that there’s more to life than just getting up every morning, going to work and coming home? We feel like there is. Take a listen to our interview with Jeff to find out more.

To begin the show, we catch up on some of the latest news going on in our lives. The National Catholic Youth Conference is coming up in two weeks! Additionally, there have been some interesting things that the US Conference of Bishops have written about healthcare reform lately and Pat found a basketball game where a player whacks a bat with his bare hand.

Finally, we finish out the show with a great book review from our friend, Barb in Nebraska, who reviews a book called “An Altar in the World.”

Before ending the show, we quiz Jeff to see if he’s up to taking our chick flick or horror film challenge. Think you can get them all correct? Stay tuned to see if you’re right!

Looking ahead, next week is our 25th show and we would like you to celebrate with us. Got a favorite show or a great comment to share? What are you waiting for? Give us a call at 206-337-7945.

How green are your practices? In this epsode, we talk with Rick Beckler at Sacred Heart Hospital. Rick is known for helping the hospital to look at its own practices and make them more environmentally conscious. In our interview, Rick gives us some practical tips on how we can be more green in our own habits and practices.

To start off the show, we talk about a new TV show that you may have heard about. It’s called Flashforward and is the new primetime hit on ABC. We’re hoping to talk a little bit more about the show on an upcoming podcast. Additionally, Pat has found a great video that was done all in one take by 172 college students. It’s quite impressive to watch. Click here to see the video. Finally, our t-shirt contest is in full swing. We are looking to hear your idea on what our shirts should say. Click here to see the rules for our contest.

We have a lot of feedback this week, including an email from someone in the Guatemalan jungle and a great phone call using one of our lines in the show. Finally, we are starting a month long series of Catholic challenges using the book review calls that we have received. We challenge our listeners to take a look at these books and choose one to read.

In this episode we have a special guest, Bill Scholl, from the Office of Social Justice for the Archdiocese of Kansas City, KS. He joined us to experience a podcast and to talk with us about the Year for Priests. To begin the show, we start off with our 3 Js and two new “What’s My Line?” calls.

In “Help, I’m Fallen,” we talk about the year for priests, the theme for this liturgical year that was announced by Pope Benedict XVI on June 24, 2009. We talk about St. John Vianney, who is now the patron of all priests and Bill lets us know that he is the only diocesan priest to have been declared a saint.

We round out the show with a new Catholic Challenge for this week and some news, including our new t-shirt design contest. Want to know more about our contest? Click here.

Finally, we quiz Bill on his knowledge of chick flicks and horror films. We haven’t done this segment in a while and we’re really excited to see how Bill answers our questions.

To close the show, we have two new pieces of feedback from our friends Ryan and Chrissy.

Looking ahead at next week’s show, we will be talking next week about ways to be green.

We announce a new contest called "Design a Tee and Get One Free (http://www.inbetweensundays.com/2009/09/design-a-tee-get-one-free/)" and talk about some upcoming merchandise promotions.

Finally, want to know some of our favorite apps for the iPhone? We talk about those in our Stuff We Like segment. We cover some of the latest social networking applications and a few of our favorite games. You can find the list below.

Looking ahead at next week's episode, we will be talking about the Year of the Priest with a special guest from the archdiocesan office in Kansas City.

The big feature of this show is the second part of our interview with Fr. Tom. In this interview, he talks about the healing power of reconciliation and how making use of the sacrament helps us maintain our mental health. Additionally he talks about how important it is that we forgive ourselves and how reconciliation should give us hope to live better lives.

BTS #13 is jam packed! We discuss superstitions, we share a what’s my line and we debut a new segment called Catholics of Caliber where we interview Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis.

We start out with our three Js! In our news segment we talk about the new Beloit Mindset List. The list “provides a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of freshmen students entering college. It is used around the world as the school year begins, as a reminder of the rapidly changing frame of reference for this new generation.” Check out the Beloit Mindset list here. Nick tells us about Nature’s Call, a young adult Labor Day camping trip. This week Nick and his roommate made a Nature’s Call promo video and posted it on YouTube.

During the episode, we had some crazy technical difficulties! So in our Help I’m Fallen segment we briefly discuss common superstitions and what we believe about them as Catholics. To hear more, check out episode #666 of the Daily Breakfast, which talks about that topic.

Our new segment is called Catholics of Caliber. This month Nick interviews Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis. Spirit and Truth is a Catholic ministry whose mission is “to bring young adults into relationship with Christ through worship of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, study of church teachings and sacred scripture and celebrations of Catholic traditions, while forming a community of life-giving relationships.” Young Adults meet for Eucharistic Adoration and fellowship afterwords at a local restaurant.

Lastly, we finish up by talking about our fourth Catholic Challenge for the month—learning the Luminous mysteries of the Rosary. Looking ahead at next week’s show, we will check in and see how we’re all doing with our Catholic Challenges (memorizing the mysteries of the Rosary).

Have you ever wanted to call into the show but aren’t sure what exactly to call us about? We’ve started a new page on the website where you can go and see the topics where we want to hear from you. Just click this link and choose one or more of the topics. We’d love to hear what you have to say!

If you haven’t joined our Facebook group yet, head to inbetweensundays.com and become a fan of our podcast. If you would like to provide feedback, send it to feedback@inbetweensundays.com or call us at (206) 337-7945.

<itunes:summary>BTS #13 is jam packed! We discuss superstitions, we share a what's my line and we debut a new segment called Catholics of Caliber where we interview Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis (http://www.spiritandtruthstl.org/).

We start out with our three Js! In our news segment we talk about the new Beloit Mindset List. The list "provides a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of freshmen students entering college. It is used around the world as the school year begins, as a reminder of the rapidly changing frame of reference for this new generation." Check out the Beloit Mindset list here (http://www.beloit.edu/mindset/2013.php). Nick tells us about Nature's Call, a young adult Labor Day camping trip. This week Nick and his roommate made a Nature's Call promo video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyBjxKgHHlE) and posted it on YouTube.

During the episode, we had some crazy technical difficulties! So in our Help I'm Fallen segment we briefly discuss common superstitions and what we believe about them as Catholics. To hear more, check out episode #666 of the Daily Breakfast (http://sqpn.com/2009/07/13/daily-breakfast-666-just-a-number/), which talks about that topic.

Our new segment is called Catholics of Caliber. This month Nick interviews Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis (http://www.spiritandtruthstl.org/).

Looking ahead at next week’s show, we will check in and see how we're all doing with our Catholic Challenges (memorizing the mysteries of the Rosary).

Have you ever wanted to call into the show but aren't sure what exactly to call us about? We've started a new page on the website where you can go and see the topics where we want to hear from you. Just click this link (http://www.inbetweensundays.com/category/open-topics/) and choose one or more of the topics. We'd love to hear what you have to say!

This is a big topic, especially for young adults who are moving out of the college lifestyle and into a parish community. Usually another parish or a group in a diocese will host a young adult group, but finding them can be hard.

What were your experiences after leaving college and working to find a community where you belonged? Perhaps you’re still searching for one. We want to hear from you and continue our discussion.

We also have a guest in the studio, our friend Kari who has graciously taken the time to come play some music for us and talk about her own inspiration for composing.

In the news segment, we talk about whether Microsoft can still sell copies of Word, due to a judgment being handed to it in Texas. We also found a blog that asks what the Bible would be like if it was sent out over Twitter.

For our Help I’m Fallen segment, we explain the practice of devotions, including a few saints and their devotions. We talk about our own favorite devotions, including the rosary and the divine mercy chaplet.

Nick quizzes Kari to see if she can correctly identify four movies in the Chick Flick or Horror Film segment. How does she do? Listen in to find out.

Finally, Kari plays some of her music for us and talks about her favorite song and what inspires her to compose music. She mentions that some of her music comes from the times in her life when big things happen. Listen in to hear some great music from the heart.

Looking ahead at next week’s show, we have an interview with an organization that helps young adults put together adoration nights and discuss their faith in a community setting.

Pat got this idea from a priest in college, who would often do a similar thing to help people pay better attention to the homily.

Second, we survey ourselves and see how we have been doing with our Catholic Challenge. In previous episodes, we talked about praying novenas and our goals to get in shape. We have both done a good job with one of the two challenges. Can you match the challenge to the host?

In our Help, I’m Fallen segment, we address what happens when your friends come back from college and seem to have lost their faith. Nick sits down with two of his friends, who talk about their own experiences with freedom and faith in college.

Finally, the pope on an iPhone? Is it True? We discuss the news of the week, including the Year for Priests, which starts on Friday, June 12, 2009. Along with declaring this a year for priests, Pope Benedict XVI declared St. John Vianney as the patron saint of priests throughout the world. In addition to all this, Pope Benedict has started a new website to embrace new media and calls for all Catholics to use this medium to share the faith.
