Have you ever caught yourself “keeping up with the Joneses?” It’s something that happens to the best of us. We have Bill Scholl, the social justice consultant for our archdiocese, on the show to talk to us about “affluenza” and how it affects our society. We feel that it is a very important topic as we move into the holiday season.

To start off the show, we have Bill give us a re-cap of his booth at the National Catholic Youth Conference. For the thematic park, he put together a monopoly board to help high school students realize the faults in the immigration system.
In our news segment, we talk about the SQPN giving campaign and our own new t-shirts. Through your order for a t-shirt and through donating to SQPN, you help support our ministry and the ministry of SQPN so that we can continue to create these awesome podcasts.

Our main feature of the show is Bill’s talk about affluenza. In our interview, Bill talks about how our mindset can be changed by those we surround ourselves with and how we tend to want things that other people have. To combat this, Bill gives some helpful suggestions on a few small changes that we can make in our lives this holiday season and also suggested reading How Much is Enough by Arthur Simon. Our Catholic Challenge this week is to implement one of those changes as a new holiday tradition.

Looking ahead at next week, we will have Jeff Young, from catholicfoodie.com on the show to talk about Christmas traditions and food. It’s definitely a show you’ll want to look forward to as we will be sharing some of our own family traditions. Want to share yours, give us a call at 206-337-7945.

They are working on releasing a new CD, which has been unnamed until now. On the show, they reveal the new name and have an excerpt of a song from the CD to play for us. In the interview, we get the opportunity to ask them a number of questions including “What’s up with the Contra code in your song?”

To start off, we have a lot of news. Did you know that they have a special mass just for judges? It’s called a red mass and one was recently celebrated for the six Catholic judges that sit on the Supreme court. We talk about how Google is celebrating the 57th anniversary of the bar code by changing their logo and what to do if you are a Linux lover and also have a baby. <itunes:summary>In this episode, we have two special guests: Dan and Kyle from Popple (http://www.popple.us/), one of our favorite bands. They are working on releasing a new CD, which has been unnamed until now. On the show, they reveal the new name and have an excerpt of a song from the CD to play for us. In the interview, we get the opportunity to ask them a number of questions including "What's up with the Contra code in your song?"

To start off, we have a lot of news. Did you know that they have a special mass just for judges? It's called a red mass and one was recently celebrated for the six Catholic judges that sit on the Supreme court. We talk about how Google is celebrating the 57th anniversary of the bar code by changing their logo and what to do if you are a Linux lover and also have a baby. In our interview, Rick gives us some practical tips on how we can be more green in our own habits and practices.

To start off the show, we talk about a new TV show that you may have heard about. It’s called Flashforward and is the new primetime hit on ABC. We’re hoping to talk a little bit more about the show on an upcoming podcast. Additionally, Pat has found a great video that was done all in one take by 172 college students. It’s quite impressive to watch. Click here to see the video. Finally, our t-shirt contest is in full swing.
We have a lot of feedback this week, including an email from someone in the Guatemalan jungle and a great phone call using one of our lines in the show. Finally, we are starting a month long series of Catholic challenges using the book review calls that we have received. We challenge our listeners to take a look at these books and choose one to read.

He joined us to experience a podcast and to talk with us about the Year for Priests. To begin the show, we start off with our 3 Js and two new “What’s My Line?” calls.

In “Help, I’m Fallen,” we talk about the year for priests, the theme for this liturgical year that was announced by Pope Benedict XVI on June 24, 2009. We talk about St. John Vianney, who is now the patron of all priests and Bill lets us know that he is the only diocesan priest to have been declared a saint.

We round out the show with a new Catholic Challenge for this week and some news, including our new t-shirt design contest. Want to know more about our contest? Click here.

Finally, we quiz Bill on his knowledge of chick flicks and horror films. We haven’t done this segment in a while and we’re really excited to see how Bill answers our questions.

To close the show, we have two new pieces of feedback from our friends Ryan and Chrissy.

Do you know where the pretzel comes from? We start off the episode with a quick history lesson about how pretzels and prayer are related. Additionally, we cover some news about the Pope’s travels and a new monopoly game that is being played online.

We have a new what’s my line suggestion and we work in the suggestion from Jeff Young that we missed on last week’s show.

The big feature of this show is the second part of our interview with Fr. Tom. In this interview, he talks about the healing power of reconciliation and how making use of the sacrament helps us maintain our mental health. Additionally he talks about how important it is that we forgive ourselves and how reconciliation should give us hope to live better lives.

We finish the show with some feedback, including our first caller from China and another “Maybe it’s Just Me” segment.

Looking ahead at next week’s show, we have a feature story about a program being started locally called “Pick God,” a program to help youth become comfortable with playing music at mass.

In this interview, he talks about the healing power of reconciliation and how making use of the sacrament helps us maintain our mental health. Additionally he talks about how important it is that we forgive ourselves and how reconciliation should give us hope to live better lives.

We finish the show with some feedback, including our first caller from China and another "Maybe it's Just Me" segment.

Looking ahead at next week's show, we have a feature story about a program being started locally called "Pick God," a program to help youth become comfortable with playing music at mass.

We have two new calls for “Whats my Line”, one is from Jeff Young from The Catholic Foodie, the other is from our friend Dan. Additionally, we have some new listeners who have sent us feedback for the podcast.

In the news Pat tells us of his friend Maria studying in China. She’s our first listener from China! We encourage all our listeners, including International to let us know their out there. Nick tells us about a new vocations video with Archbishop Dolan in it. Check it out at nypriest.com. Lastly, check out Sonic’s new promotion to help support public school teachers across America called Limeades for Learning.

We sit down with our parish priest, Fr. Tom, who talks to us about confession. This is a two-part interview, with the second part coming next week. In this episode, Fr. Tom talks about the history of the sacrament, whether priests and bishops go to confession and why he thinks the sacrament should be referred to as reconciliation rather than confession.

For this week’s Catholic challenge, we ask you to go to our site and look at a examination of conscience. Let us know what you think by clicking here.

In this episode, we have a big announcement! But first, we start off talking about our 3 Js for the week. From there, we talk about some interesting news: a big tomato fight and the USCCB website for the changes happening to the Roman missal.

Second, we have a big announcement about our podcast and some changes that are coming. To mark this podcast, we have put together some fun things for the listeners. Tune in and hear how we celebrate this big announcement.

For this week’s Help I’m Fallen segment, we talk about the rosary, where it came from and a pope known as the “Rosary Pope.” Did you know that the rosary has been used by the laity to imitate the monastic liturgy of the hours? Additionally, we talk about Pop John Paul II’s encyclical on the rosary and his own methods for praying it.

In our Catholic Challenge, we ask our listeners to put their knowledge into action and pray a rosary this week. Choose any of the mysteries of the rosary and take some time to pray it this week.

In looking ahead at our next few episodes, we are going to do a series on confession. We would like to hear your thoughts about the sacrament. Give us a call at (206) 337-7945 and give us your experiences.

Finally, in an upcoming show, we are going to highlight funny stories from your past. We are working to compile our own, so call us and give us some stories to share.

BTS #13 is jam packed! We discuss superstitions, we share a what’s my line and we debut a new segment called Catholics of Caliber where we interview Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis.

We start out with our three Js! In our news segment we talk about the new Beloit Mindset List. The list “provides a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of freshmen students entering college. It is used around the world as the school year begins, as a reminder of the rapidly changing frame of reference for this new generation.” Check out the Beloit Mindset list here. Nick tells us about Nature’s Call, a young adult Labor Day camping trip. This week Nick and his roommate made a Nature’s Call promo video and posted it on YouTube.

During the episode, we had some crazy technical difficulties! So in our Help I’m Fallen segment we briefly discuss common superstitions and what we believe about them as Catholics. To hear more, check out episode #666 of the Daily Breakfast, which talks about that topic.

Our new segment is called Catholics of Caliber. This month Nick interviews Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis. Spirit and Truth is a Catholic ministry whose mission is “to bring young adults into relationship with Christ through worship of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, study of church teachings and sacred scripture and celebrations of Catholic traditions, while forming a community of life-giving relationships.” Young Adults meet for Eucharistic Adoration and fellowship afterwords at a local restaurant.

Lastly, we finish up by talking about our fourth Catholic Challenge for the month—learning the Luminous mysteries of the Rosary. Looking ahead at next week’s show, we will check in and see how we’re all doing with our Catholic Challenges (memorizing the mysteries of the Rosary).

Have you ever wanted to call into the show but aren’t sure what exactly to call us about? We’ve started a new page on the website where you can go and see the topics where we want to hear from you. Just click this link and choose one or more of the topics. We’d love to hear what you have to say!

In this episode, Pat and Nick cover some new technological developments, including a new augmented reality game and President John Quincy Adams on Twitter. Additionally, we are joined by a special guest, Micless Mike, who is sitting in on our show to figure out how to create a podcast of his own.

For the “Help I’m Fallen” segment, we have some feedback from our friend Angela, who asks us about eating out on Sundays. Listen in to hear our thoughts about eating out on Sunday. Afterwards, we invite you to call us with your feedback at +1.206.337.7945.

Do you happen to have music in your iTunes library that you listen to but your friends would totally make fun of you for having? It turns out that we do, too. In our “Stuff We Like” segment, we share some music that we still have in our iTunes library that is slightly embarassing. Additionally, we offer some explanations (or excuses) as to why we still have that music.

We have some great feedback from our friend Sarah and Mary along with a new promo for a show being put together by Deacon Tom called “Catholic Vitamins.” Look for Deacon Tom’s new show starting in September.

Finally, do you know all the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary? If not, consider participating in our Catholic Challenge for the next epsiode and learn the five sorroful mysteries and commit to praying a rosary over the next week.

Looking ahead at next week’s show, we will have a musician on the program to talk about how she inspires herself to write and we’ll listen to some of her compositions.

We have made it to our tenth episode! In honor of this special show, we met with Paul Camarata of the Saintcast and Fr. Seraphim Beshoner of Catholic Under the Hood on the Plaza in Kansas City. Both of them have fantastic podcasts and we really appreciate the time they took to record an episode with us.

In this episode, we have a “What’s My Line?” comment from our friend, Victoria, who we met at the Catholic New Media Celebration in San Antonio, TX.

During the news segment, we talk about Pope Benedict XVI’s broken wrist and his summer location at Castel Gandalfo. Additionally, how much do you owe on your credit card bill? Pat finds an interesting story about someone whose bill was enormously large.

This week, for our “Help, I’m Fallen” segment, we tackle the problem of healthcare in the United States: What should be done, how does it relate to the dignity of life, and what are the moral decisions behind providing everyone in the United States with access to healthcare.

Finally, we quiz our guests to see whether they can correctly identify some chick flicks or some horror films. Listen in and see if you can get all the answers correct.

Do you know the five joyful mysteries? To end the show, we challenge people to take a closer look at the rosary and commit to spending some time in praye this week.

Make sure you join in our discussions on our Facebook page. We welcome all sorts of feedback, including voice feedback by calling our phone number at +1.206.337.7945

The previous weekend, Pat and Nick were in San Antonio for the Catholic New Media Conference and visited the Alamo. While there, we pose the question: “Davy Crockett or Chuck Norris, who would win?” Pat talks to a sno-cone vendor who has penguins on her cart.

How often do you work to listen to God during the week? In our Help, I’m Fallen segment, we talk about how praying is not a one way street and then challenge people to spend some time in Eucharistic Adoration this week.

We wrap up the show with an interview with Nicholas of the Catholic Company, one of the sponsors of CNMC ’09 and a piece of feedback we received about our mention of Getting Things Done, by David Allen.

On our future show, we will be talking about discussing religion in the workplace. If you would like to be part of our discussion or would like to leave us feedback, call us at +1.206.337.7945

Fathers Day is Sunday, June 21 so we have compiled this special episode in honor of dads everywhere. In this episode, we talk about the “three J’s” meaning Junk, Joy and Jesus and how we can use that model to evaluate what has been going on in our lives.

Pat talks about how he feels like he’s been way too busy and needs to find an organizational system in order to keep everything straight. We talk about some of the books that we have read that help people to learn about organization and planning, including Getting Things Done and Bit Literacy.

We finally have a feedback line and for this show asked people to call in and give us their favorite memories of their own dad. We received a few submissions and play them throughout the show.

Finally, we issue a special Catholic Challenge for Father’s day, asking people to spend time with their dad and to pray for him. We conclude the show with an interview with Nick and Pat’s brother Brian and their father about their own family traditions and special things they did with their dad growing up.

In this week’s episode, we are starting a new competition called “What’s My Line,” a chance for listeners to send us feedback and challenge us to work wacky lines into our podcast. Pat got this idea from a priest in college, who would often do a similar thing to help people pay better attention to the homily.

Second, we survey ourselves and see how we have been doing with our Catholic Challenge. In previous episodes, we talked about praying novenas and our goals to get in shape. We have both done a good job with one of the two challenges. Can you match the challenge to the host?

In our Help, I’m Fallen segment, we address what happens when your friends come back from college and seem to have lost their faith. Nick sits down with two of his friends, who talk about their own experiences with freedom and faith in college.

Finally, the pope on an iPhone? Is it True? We discuss the news of the week, including the Year for Priests, which starts on Friday, June 12, 2009. Along with declaring this a year for priests, Pope Benedict XVI declared St. John Vianney as the patron saint of priests throughout the world. In addition to all this, Pope Benedict has started a new website to embrace new media and calls for all Catholics to use this medium to share the faith.
